Valentine's Crochet Love Letter

2:23:00 PM

Happy (almost) Valentine's Day everyone!

I hope you spend it with a big box of chocolates and some yarn!

I met my sweetie around this time of the year lots of years ago back when we were in high school! So this holiday always lights up a special little corner of my heart.

In thinking about this special holiday, I wanted to make something a little different.

One of the magical reasons I love crochet is it is a craft that will last forever. Unlike baking yummy cookies (which are also great for V-day), I can spend a few hours creating something that will be there to enjoy every day thereafter.

So I created a Crochet Love Letter to exchange sweet notes with my valentine! I see us exchanging this little envelope every now and then with some sweet words inside.

This would be a super cute family-wide love letter too! Every day or every week you could check your "Love Mail" all together to see who got a hug or a sweet note - kids could leave notes for Mom or siblings there too!

Now doesn't that sound just so stinkin' cute?

Well here is the handy pattern - I hope you guys enjoy this love letter and share it with someone special to you!

PATTERN:
Materials
-Worsted weight yarn in white, red, and royal blue (I used vanna's choice)
-Size J 6mm crochet hook
-Tapestry needle

Begin with Ch 32
Row 1: Dc in second Ch from hook and all the way down the row, Ch 2, turn
Rows 2-14: Repeat row 1
Turn your rectangle to work down the edge
Row 15: Dc along the edge (once in each of the 14 rows - so 14 Dc total here), Ch 2, turn
Row 16: Dc decrease, Dc in next 10 sts, Dc decrease, Ch 2, turn
Row 17: Dc decrease, Dc in next 8 sts, Dc decrease, Ch 2, turn
Row 18: Dc decrease, Dc in next 6 sts, Dc decrease, Ch 2, turn
Row 19: Dc decrease, Dc in next 4 sts, Dc decrease, Ch 2, turn
Row 20: Dc decrease, Dc in next 2 sts, Dc decrease, Ch 2, turn
Row 21: Dc decrease, Dc decrease, Ch 2, turn
Row 22: Dc dcrease, finish off, weave ends
Now that you have the envelope shape, holding the piece lengthwise, fold the bottom of your rectangle up to meet the top of the rectangle. The "flap" of decreasing rows, or triangular piece will lay over the now folded rectangle.
Using a piece of white yarn, sew up the sides of your folded rectangle to secure the envelope shape.

You can stop here or add some embellishments!

Edging:
I used this candy cane border technique using blue and red yarn to create the twisted border, working in every other stitch.

Stamp:Ch 5
Row 1: Sc in next 4 sts, Ch 1, turn
Rows 2-4: repeat Row 1
Fasten off leaving a long tail and sew onto front of love letter

Postmark:
Ch 12
Fasten off leaving a long tail and sew onto front of love letter next to your stamp

Heart:
Begin with a magic ring
All inside ring: 1 Dc, 5 Trc, 4 Dc, Ch 2, 4 Dc, 5 Trc, sl st into ring
Pull tail to tighten the ring
Fasten off leaving a long tail and sew onto front of love letter

That's it, yall! I hope you deliver some sweet notes in this little cutie.
