Amigurumi Apple | Back to School Series
10:14:00 AMHey there!
Part 3 of my Back to School Series with Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton Yarn (which I'd like to mention is on sale right now!) is here & she is oh so cute - everyone meet...
The Amigurumi Apple!
{I like alliteration, ok}
So I'm going to get right down to this pattern without any fuss because to be completely honest, my little 3 month old and I have had a rough go lately in the sleeping and eating department (or lack thereof).
If you'd like, leave this little apple without a face as pictured above. But how could you do that when the face makes this little cutie so darn cute?
A word of advice - You will need safety eyes for this project! I found mine at Hobby Lobby in the doll clothes/googly eyes department. If you don't have a Hobby Lobby near you (bless your heart, and I'm sorry) you can always stitch eyes on with yarn and a tapestry needle! I just prefer the safety eyes - they are easier to get looking perfectly symmetrical.
Enjoy this little cutie! I loved making her & I believe I do see much more amigurumi food in my future...
PATTERN
Materials:
-Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton yarn in red, grass, and a small amount of black and cafe au lait
-Size F 3.75mm crochet hook
-Safety eyes
-Stitch marker (or a bobbi pin!)
-Polyfil stuffing
-Tapestry needle
Note: Work in continuous rounds, do not join at the end of each row. Simply place your stitch marker in the last stitch of each round and move it up as you move on to each new round.
Apple:
With Red, Ch 2
Round 1: 10 Sc in first Ch (place marker in last Sc)
Round 2: 2 Sc in each st around (20)
Round 3: *2 Sc in next, Sc in next, repeat from * around (30)
Rounds 4-7: Sc in each st around (30)
Round 8: *2 Sc in next, Sc in next 9, repeat from * around (33)
Round 9: *2 Sc in next, Sc in next 10, repeat from * around (36)
Round 10: *2 Sc in next, Sc in next 11, repeat from * around (39)
Round 11: *2 Sc in next, Sc in next 12, repeat from * around (42)
Rounds 12-15: Sc in each st around (42)
Round 16: *Sc decrease, Sc in next 12, repeat from * around (39)
Round 17: *Sc decrease, Sc in next 11, repeat from * around (36)
Round 18: *Sc decrease, Sc in next, repeat from * around (24)
Round 19: Sc decrease 12 times (12)
-Place safety eyes at this point
-Using Black and a tapestry needle, embroider a simple half moon shaped smile on your apple
-Look at the bottom of your apple. Pull the starting Ch tail down and out through the beginning loop of stitches (we'll come back to this tail in a moment)
-Stuff your apple with polyfil stuffing until firm
Round 20: Sc decrease 6 times (6)
Round 21: Sc decrease 3 times (3)
Finish off leaving a long tail. Thread your tail on the tapestry needle and sew down through the center "core" of the apple, coming out the other side, through your beginning ring of stitches (Round 1). Pull this yarn tight, creating a dimple in the top of your apple. Holding in place, tie a tight knot with your beginning and ending yarn tails (now both on the outside bottom of your apple). Weave in these ends.
Leaf:
With Grass, Ch 6
Sc in 2nd Ch from hook, Hdc in next, Dc in next 2, 6 Dc in last Ch st, turn to work in other side of Ch
Dc in next 2, Hdc in next, Sc in last, Ch 2, Sc in 2nd Ch from hook, sl st to join to first Sc of the leaf.
Finish off leaving a long tail, sew onto the top dimple in the apple placing the rounded end at the center of the apple's dimple.
Stem:
With Cafe Au Lait, Ch 8, sl st to join to first Ch. Finish off leaving a long tail, sew onto apple dimple as close to the leaf as possible (only sew down where the Ch loop in joined, not the entire loop. You want the Ch loop standing up like a stem)

That's it! Make this little cutie for your favorite teacher, or sneak this in your kids' lunch pail as a fun surprise!
