So today's Christmas Traditions Crochet a Long ornament is a bit of an odd one - but that makes this project so much more fun.

Most people don't see pumpkins as particularly Christmas-y, most think of them around Halloween or Thanksgiving.

However, for me pumpkins are a year round thing. And I'll tell ya why.

While some may call their significant others baby, sweetie pie, or boo thang - we call each other "pumpkin"

So I settled on a little tiny pumpkin to represent us on our tree, because when I look at it I remember all the wonderful times we've had (and will have!)

Just for fun, here's us with baby Parker a few months ago (because new parents never take selfies anymore)


"But Sewrella, why isn't the pumpkin orange... like a pumpkin?"

I really have no good answer for you. I love white pumpkins around my house for fall decor and I like the vintage-y, farmhouse look about them.

Plus white is more of a Christmas color than orange. You know, with the snow and all. I don't know. I just like white pumpkins.

You could use this pattern for fall and winter decor around the house too - add a few on your mantle or on the table at Thanksgiving for a big crowd pleaser!

THE TRADITION: Dedicate the day to your pumpkin. Mine is my fiance but yours can be your child, your cat, your sister, your spouse, or yourself!

Try to think of something your pumpkin would enjoy and make the day about them unexpectedly - here are some ideas:

• surprise them at work with cubicle picnic
• make them their favorite dessert
• give them a little Christmas gift early
• bring out some wine and cheese for a romantic date night in after the kids are in bed! (Can you tell my love language is food??)
