Crochet Donut Granny Square: Bake Shop Blanket Series

6:09:00 PM

Hey, you!

Welcome back.

It's nice to see you.

Today I have what may be my favorite of all the Bake Shop Squares...

a donut!

Donuts are my favorite. They're more than my favorite. They're in a league of their own.

The donut league.

If I ever play a sport, that's what the team name will be.

But seriously guys, if you know me you know that donuts are my thing.
My best friend manages a cute little island donut shop so I basically had to make this square.

I have made the donut itself before when she asked me to make her some crochet donuts to go with her Christmas decorations at the shop last year!

I really just added a granny square to that pattern and voila! Donut granny square.

I hope you guys love this one as much as I do!

Here is the handy video tutorial!

PATTERN:
Materials
-Worsted weight yarn in beige, chocolate, mint, and a small amount of variegated pink (I used Lion Brand Vanna's Choice for all of these)
-Size H crochet hook
-Tapestry needle

Donut:
Begin with a slip knot in beige, Ch 10, sl st in first Ch to form a ring
Round 1: Work 12 Dc in the ring, sl st to join, Ch 2
Round 2: 2 Dc in each st around (24 sts), sl st to join, Ch 1
Round 3: *2 Sc in first st, Sc in next st*, repeat from * around, sl st to join, finish off, weave ends

Frosting:
Begin with a slip knot in chocolate (or any other color for frosting), Ch 10, sl st in first Ch to form a ring
Round 1: Work 12 Dc in the ring, sl st to join, Ch 2
Round 2: *3 Dc in first st, sl st in next st*, repeat from * around, sl st to join, finish off leaving a long tail for sewing

Sprinkles:
Using a piece of variegated yarn (or several smaller pieces of multicolored yarns), thread a tapestry needle and sew on "sprinkles" about 1cm long all the way around the frosting, finish off, weave ends.

*At this point use your long frosting tail to sew sprinkled frosting onto donut base.

Granny Square:
Round 1: With new color, sl st into top right corner of donut, all in the same st: CH 2, 2 DC, CH 3, 3 DC, CH 1, skip 3 sts, 3 DC in next st, CH 1, *3 DC, CH 3, 3 DC, CH 1, skip 3 sts, 3 DC in next st, CH 1*, repeat from * twice more forming a square, sl st to beginning CH 2

Rounds 2-3: Continue in this same manner – in corners 3 DC, CH 3, 3 DC, CH 1 and in all other CH spaces 3 DC, CH 1, finish off, weave ends

And there you have the donut granny square! What flavors will you make?
