Nursery Transformation: The Beginning

7:26:00 PM

Hi friends!

So as most of you may know, I am expecting my first baby in just 3 short months (Due May 27!)

It's crunch time.

Not like "panic and run around like a headless chicken" crunch time but like "let's get this nursery looking like a nursery, people!" crunch time.

As you can imagine, I really don't enjoy searching for the perfect thing on the shelves of Target or Home Goods. And I spend way too many dollars when I step foot into those stores.

I much prefer dreaming up the perfect thing in my mind and working backward from there on how to create said thing.

When I step back and look at it, I wind up spending about the same amount of money in materials to make what I want but here's my logic:

1. What I make is custom, tailored to exactly what I want.
2. I have total control over color scheme, size, style, and on and on.
3. I made it with my own two little hands! And if that doesn't take a crib skirt from "this thing on my bed to look pretty" to "the most special thing ever in the whole world" then I don't know what will

Now I am not without my flaws. I have ruined many a yard of fabric.

And yes, that is time and money "wasted."

Or it is a learning experience and I grew as a maker from it.

~ Back to the nursery ~

My fiance and I love the outdoors and hiking so we have chosen to decorate the baby's room in a camping / woodland / forrest theme.

Think: Foxes, bears, neutrals, dark greens and browns with some burnt oranges and navy blues thrown in for flair.

Really I just want my little boy's room to be calming and serene - mimicking the way I feel when I'm in the woods!

So I have many plans for how to achieve this - mostly by making all kinds of cute accents to really pull this room together by way of details.

I'll show you what I'm starting with: now prepare yourself - this is not a beautiful room... YET!

What we have here is a disorganized dumping ground for baby things...

But with a fully assembled crib and changing table! Thanks he-man fiance.

Remember that baby blanket from this video? Thought ya might!

I also made that crib sheet recently! 2 yards of fabric, a little elastic, and an hour of precious time and voila! My first go at a crib sheet and I'm very pleased with it. I'll definitely be making a few more of these. (Anybody want a step-by-step tutorial on that one?)

Remember my friends here? That amigurumi bear is a free pattern on my blog - check it out HERE! And the fox was hand sewn by my bestie with love and it's definitely my favorite thing in this room right now.

Then there is the corner of loneliness. Here is where the glider/rocker will go. Its ordered and on its way but for now, this corner remains a gaping hole. I want to do something special with the walls in this corner. Something interesting. Something cozy.

Oh! And look at that dresser - a donation from my mom since the nursery has no closet. This baby will hold all of the baby's tiny clothes. Isn't it a beauty?

(Also: Hi!)

That big green messy pile are the curtains - I saw these at IKEA for $19 and had to get them, I couldn't make them for that price.

But they need to be ironed. And I haven't felt like it. So there they sit.

Next to the dresser is a nice sized changing table that came free with my crib! Score! But of course right now it is holding all of the breast-feeding paraphernalia I've collected so far. I want to jazz this guy up and I have some ideas. Just stick with me.

I also plan to utilize the wall space here to really bring things together.

In due time.

Really that is where I'm at so far!

It's a blank canvas, disguised as a mess - but a blank canvas nonetheless!

I'll check back with you lovely readers in another week or two to show ya what I've done!

What would you do to this space? Leave me a comment!
