Nursery Transformation: The Beginning
7:26:00 PMHi friends!
So as most of you may know, I am expecting my first baby in just 3 short months (Due May 27!)
It's crunch time.
Not like "panic and run around like a headless chicken" crunch time but like "let's get this nursery looking like a nursery, people!" crunch time.
As you can imagine, I really don't enjoy searching for the perfect thing on the shelves of Target or Home Goods. And I spend way too many dollars when I step foot into those stores.
I much prefer dreaming up the perfect thing in my mind and working backward from there on how to create said thing.
When I step back and look at it, I wind up spending about the same amount of money in materials to make what I want but here's my logic:
1. What I make is custom, tailored to exactly what I want.
2. I have total control over color scheme, size, style, and on and on.
3. I made it with my own two little hands! And if that doesn't take a crib skirt from "this thing on my bed to look pretty" to "the most special thing ever in the whole world" then I don't know what will
Now I am not without my flaws. I have ruined many a yard of fabric.
And yes, that is time and money "wasted."
Or it is a learning experience and I grew as a maker from it.

My fiance and I love the outdoors and hiking so we have chosen to decorate the baby's room in a camping / woodland / forrest theme.
Think: Foxes, bears, neutrals, dark greens and browns with some burnt oranges and navy blues thrown in for flair.
Really I just want my little boy's room to be calming and serene - mimicking the way I feel when I'm in the woods!
So I have many plans for how to achieve this - mostly by making all kinds of cute accents to really pull this room together by way of details.
I'll show you what I'm starting with: now prepare yourself - this is not a beautiful room... YET!
I also made that crib sheet recently! 2 yards of fabric, a little elastic, and an hour of precious time and voila! My first go at a crib sheet and I'm very pleased with it. I'll definitely be making a few more of these. (Anybody want a step-by-step tutorial on that one?)
That big green messy pile are the curtains - I saw these at IKEA for $19 and had to get them, I couldn't make them for that price.
