Happy weekend everyone!

In honor of Mother's Day tomorrow, I've completed something which will soon be a cherished crochet piece for this Mama-to-be - a newborn set!


This is the final installment of my first ever newborn set that has been named for the bun that is still cookin' away in my oven (but not for much longer - less than two weeks to go!) - Parker Owen.

I can't wait to update this post with photos of my little peanut wearing the hat, booties, and bum cover named after him! It will seriously make this crocheting mama's heart flutter.

For now, I don't want to wait on giving you all the free pattern! The style here is uber simplistic, with simple stitches throughout - nothing too fancy but a clean, boyish look with just the right amount of texture.


I had seen lots and lots of newborn sets that were themed or character-based, but I wanted my nugget to shine in his newborn photos - not be competing with his outfit. I wanted something boyish that wasn't blue and just a tad more interesting than an uber-plain outfit. And I hate to toot my own horn, but I'm super happy with the look that we have here!

I've had so much fun making this matching set, I don't think it'll be my last.

PATTERN:
Materials:
-Worsted weight yarn (I used Lion Brand Vanna's Choice in grey marble)
-A button (I used a plain black one)
-Size H 5mm Crochet Hook
-Tapestry needle

Begin with a slip knot and Ch 46
Row 1: Dc in the 2nd Ch from hook, and in each st across, Ch 2, turn
Row 2: Dc in first st, *Fpdc, Dc, repeat from * across, Ch 2, turn
Row 3: Bpdc in first st, *Dc, Bpdc, repeat from * across, Do not Ch, turn
Row 4: Sl st in first 10 sts, Ch 2, Dc in next 24 sts, leave the rest of the row unworked, Ch 2, turn
Row 5: Dc across, Ch 2, turn
Row 6: Dc dec, Dc in next 20, Dc dec in last 2 sts, Ch 2, turn
Row 7: Dc dec, Dc in next 18, Dc dec in last 2 sts, Ch 2, turn
Now time to sew the button - be sure you sew it onto the right side! You want to identify the side of your diaper cover that is the "right side" or the side that has the ribbing from those Fpdcs and Bpdcs exposed. This will be the side that you see when the little guy is wearing the cover, not the side against his bum or diaper. Here are some photos to help you out with placing your button!
